The 19th century was a time of extraordinary scientific and technical advancements, but it also was witness to a new found interest in the occult.
With this special panel presentation the society will be hosting three experts on occult beliefs and superstitions of the nineteenth century. From the common to the arcane, join us as we delve into the realms of spirit photography, presidential hauntings, and even the lost continent of Atlantis.

Our presenters will be:

 Frank Todaro, host of the on-line radio show The Invisible World .(http://www.blogtalkradio.com/theinvisibleworld)                                                                 Mr. Todaro will be presenting an interactive multi-media lecture on the reality vs. fiction of spirit photography and paranormal phenomenon during the late 19th and early 20th century. In the process some commonly held mysteries will be debunked, and some fiction might find basis in real-life events of the time!

Kenneth Toglia, author and NYC’s resident historian of mermaid lore.

Elise Gainer author of Ghosts and Murders of Manhattan
Ms. Gainer shares historical images and tales of 19th Century hauntings in Manhattan. Hear how rivals in life, Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr, continued to vie for attention after death. Learn about the eerie paranormal activity attributed to President Lincoln, Peter Stuyvesant and Washington Irving.
